There are tons of DIY recipes for making low waste and/or zero waste toothpaste, mostly out of bicarbonate of soda, coconut oil, and essential oils to take care of your pearly whites. When I first started out trying to be low waste, I was on a budget for a lot of things and had to make use of whatever I had at home to lessen my (plastic) waste. One of the first things I tried diy-ing was making my own toothpaste (the other was my own deodorant!) out of coconut oil, bicarbonate of soda, and peppermint essential oil. It worked for a bit but my teeth became too sensitive to the abrasive bicarbonate of soda, and I gave up in trying to making my own toothpaste.
